Spray paint meets oxidised copper. What started as cellophane wrapping paper becomes something that looks like it crawled out of another planet.
This is the HEX series — abstract forms that shift between alien organisms and impossible landscapes. Five layers of screenprint on actual copper, not paper that looks like copper. Real metal that ages and oxidises over time, meaning your piece will change as you live with it. No two copper prints age the same way. The patina develops its own character.
The process here matters. I spray-painted cellophane to create these forms — the randomness of the spray meeting the reflection and transparency of the material. Then photographed them, turned them into screens, and pulled them by hand onto oxidised copper sheets. Five layers building up these otherworldly shapes in CMYK.
This series exists in multiple forms. The copper editions are the originals — only 5 exist of each variant, pulled onto actual metal. There are also paper editions in different colourways for collectors who want the image without the metal. Each version has its own character. The copper catches light differently. The paper versions let the colour breathe.
The copper matters here because it's alive. It responds to humidity, to touch, to time. Gallery pieces sit behind glass forever unchanged. These prints are meant to be lived with. The metal will develop its own story alongside yours.
I've been pulling screens for 20 years just to tear apart everything I learned. This is what that looks like — taking something as ordinary as sweet wrapping and turning it into something that feels like it came from somewhere else entirely. The kind of work you can't make in committee or by following a brief.
