Copper doesn't stay the same. It breathes, shifts, weathers. What starts bright and clean turns green-blue with time, developing its own patina, its own character. This is oxidised flat bed printing — taking that natural process and using it as the foundation for something else entirely.
This is Dolph. A one-off original that started life as a sheet of copper in the Kimpton studio. The oxidation happened first — controlled but unpredictable, creating patterns and colours that no brush could match. Then came the printed collage elements, layered on top. Then varnish, sealing it all in. Each step responding to what came before.
The copper patina is the star here. It creates depths and textures that shift depending on how the light hits it. The collage illustration sits on top of this oxidised landscape like something discovered rather than designed. Abstract composition, but with purpose. The varnish overlay adds another layer of visual complexity — protection and finish rolled into one.
This is mixed media work at a small, intimate scale. 115 x 205mm — about the size of a postcard, but with the weight and presence of something much larger. Signed on the back. There's only one of these. When it's gone, it's gone.
The beauty of oxidised copper is that it never truly stops changing. Even varnished, even sealed, it continues to develop subtle shifts in tone and texture over years. You're not just buying a finished piece — you're buying something that will continue to evolve.
This comes from twenty years of screen printing knowledge, all broken down and rebuilt for flat bed work on metal. It's the kind of piece that happens when you stop following the rules and start following the material. The copper dictates the palette. The oxidation creates the composition. The printing responds to what's already there.
