Welcome To The Beginners 1 Layer Screen Printing Workshop!

This one-day course is perfect for those new to screen printing and also serves as a great refresher for those with prior experience.

Learn the fundamental processes of screen printing, including artworking on computer, creating stencils and textures, and their various applications. The class provides all necessary materials and you'll walk away with 10 A3 screenprints!

Throughout the day, you'll gain knowledge on preparing your screen for artwork, setting up your workspace, mixing inks, and printing a small edition of your own artwork to take home.

Each workshop is limited to 5 participants, ensuring personalised instruction and allowing time for questions.

Please note, participants must be 18 years or older to attend, and if interested in booking for someone younger, please email to discuss.

Be prepared

It's gonna be cold during the winter months so make sure you wrap up warm!

  1. Lunch: Bring along a light lunch to keep you fuelled throughout the day. I have a fridge for lunches and snacks, alternatively Harpenden town is 10 mins drive away if you fancy popping out to get some food or coffee.

  2. Comfortable Clothing: Opt for clothing that allows you to move freely and comfortably as you engage in the screen printing process. Given the hands-on nature of the workshop, it's advisable to choose old clothes that can withstand a bit of ink exposure. (Aprons will also be provided)

  3. Footwear: Select comfortable and practical shoes, keeping in mind that the studio environment may involve some inky spills. Footwear that provides support for standing and moving around is recommended.

Submit Your Artwork:

I will need to prepare your positives (layers) before the class goes ahead. In order to do this please send me an image one week before hand.

The image intended for printing should be approx A4 in size. Whether it's a photograph, illustration, typographic design, or a straightforward doodle, any of these artistic expressions are welcome. To facilitate the preparation process, kindly email your artwork at least a week before the workshop.

Here are the guidelines for submitting your artwork:

  1. Size and Color: Ensure that your image is approx A4 in size and strictly in black and white.

  2. Variety of Formats: Your artwork can be in various formats, such as .jpeg, .pdf, or .psd file

  3. Submission Deadline: Submit your artwork via email to Include your name and the date of the workshop in the title of the email.

Here are some examples of images that can be printed as one layer, Notice how the artists have used the negative white space to their advantage
