Found this buried in a stack from 2019. Acetone and four layers of screenprint on Somerset Satin. Only made a few.
The acetone went down first — aggressive, dissolving, eating into the paper fibres before the ink could settle. Then four careful passes of screenprint over the top. Each layer building colour and form over that raw, chemical base.
Most printers avoid acetone. It's unpredictable. It doesn't play nice with ink. It creates textures you can't control or repeat. Which is exactly why I used it here. The screenprint gives structure — clean edges, solid colour blocks. The acetone underneath gives chaos.
Two versions exist. Jacky 1 and Jacky 2. Both 560 x 760mm on the same Somerset Satin paper. Same process, same four-layer build, same acetone foundation. But each one developed differently as the chemicals interacted with the ink. You can't make two pieces exactly the same when acetone's involved.
This isn't from an edition. No planning, no test prints, no colour matching. Just pulled two impressions when the chemistry felt right and stopped. The plates are long gone. These are the only two left.
Hand-pulled in the Kimpton studio where I learned to stop fighting the unpredictable parts of screenprint and start using them. Twenty years of learning technique just to deliberately break it.
